Introduction

In recent years, Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become one of the main pillars of effective management of building and infrastructure projects. Using BIM is no longer merely a technology choice; it has become a professional necessity for increasing accuracy, productivity, and coordination among project parties. BIM applications play a key role in realizing its potential benefits. Among the many BIM applications, some are recognized as the most fundamental and, at the same time, the most effective project management tools, including: 3D simulation, for giving stakeholders a better visual understanding of the project design and for reviewing different operation scenarios; Clash Detection, for preventing execution errors before work begins; Quantity Takeoff, for accurately estimating quantities and costs; and 4D simulation, for reviewing the project delivery sequence over time.

In this training workshop, participants become familiar with the basic and advanced concepts of these applications and the main tools used to implement them in projects, and through practical exercises they experience the implementation process of these applications on real projects. The workshop is structured to serve professionals working in building, infrastructure, and industrial projects, and to be an effective step toward advancing their execution and management capabilities in BIM.

Minimum Requirements for Attending

Familiarity with the basic definitions and principles of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the fundamentals of construction project management.

  • 1) Introduction to BIM and a review of its main aspects and dimensions
    • Definition and goals of BIM
    • BIM maturity levels
    • Overview of the main BIM applications
    • The role of BIM in the project life cycle
  • 2) 3D Simulation
    • Preparing the BIM model for import into Twinmotion
    • Creating visual scenes and configuring lighting and materials
    • Designing walkthrough paths, animation, and operation scenarios
    • Producing visual outputs for stakeholder presentations (renders, video, virtual reality)
  • 3) Clash Detection and resolution
    • Clash types (hard, soft, workflow)
    • Principles of running the clash resolution process
    • Clash prioritization and reporting methods
    • Using Navisworks for clash detection and management
  • 4) BIM-based Quantity Takeoff
    • Automated quantity extraction from the model
    • Comparing estimate accuracy against traditional methods
    • Reporting tools and templates in BIM software
  • 5) 4D Simulation in projects
    • The concept of integrating time with the 3D model
    • Creating a 4D model in Navisworks
    • Linking the schedule (start/finish dates) to model components
    • Reviewing different construction scenarios
    • Reviewing clashes between work groups
